Coffee has become a huge part in people’s daily lives. It is especially important in the western culture. In Asia countries such as China, coffee is somewhat less popular. For me, I did not know what Starbucks was until I was 12 years old. One of my friends told me about the great taste of coffee and led me to one Starbucks store close to our school. When he heard that I had never been to Starbucks, he laughed at me so badly. I guessed Starbucks and coffee culture had already been widely spread in China by that time, yet people like me who spent most time at home and rarely went out knew little about coffee.
I was amazed when I first entered Starbucks. To be honest, I had never seen such a quiet and harmonious place where people read or work or chat with their friends. The environment was so pleasant that people are able to enjoy themselves and relax there.
I did not know what to order since I was not familiar with coffee at all. So I followed my friend and ordered green tea latte (Another reason was that green tea was my favorite flavor). I could never forget the first suck (because it was extremely hot, I had to suck it slowly). It tasted gorgeous. It was not bitter as told by my parents. Actually my friend told me that green tea latte was the only one that was not bitter at all. I hate bitterness, and therefore I have only ordered green tea latte at Starbucks.
We found a seat and sat down start doing our homework. The major color of Starbucks is brown, like the color of coffee. Together with this dark color, its mild and soft yellow light creates a very comfortable and harmonious place that is suitable for relaxation. The smell of coffee haunted the entire area of the store, which further extended my comfortableness. Perhaps due to coffee’s special refreshing function, I was able to concentrate on my homework with that distinctive smell.
Another thing I really liked about Starbucks was their customer service. The employees there were really nice and talked to me with a big smile and in a polite voice. They all used the Chinese official language rather than some local languages which I could not understand.
In China, more and more people drink coffee and Starbucks stores have been ubiquitous as in the United States. Coffee culture penetrates into every moment of life. Whether at home or in the offices, or at a variety of public places, people drink coffee: it has been gradually linked with fashion and modern life. Cafes across the country become a good place to have conversations, listening to music, and rest.
